"Mrs. Mahala Rench Passes Away At Pleasant Mound Funeral Services Are Held Sunday; Interment at Noffsinger. Mrs. Mahala J. Rench, widow of the late David M. Rench and a well known resident of Pleasant Mound township, passed away at her home in Pleasant Mound at 7:45 p.m. Friday, following an illness of a week from bronchial pneumonia dn complications. Mrs. Rench, however, had been in failing health for the past five years. Funeral services were conducted at the Brethren church in Pleasant Mound, of which she was a member, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. D. J. Blickenstaff of Cerro Gordo officiating. Interment was made at the Noffsinger cemetery. The pall bearers were Edgar Redenbo, Elbert Reeves, Robert Dickson, Ralph Cheatham, Howard Cripe and Henry Vieregge.
Mrs. Rench's maiden name was Mahala J. Pugh, the daughter of the late Henry and Katherine (Iakin) Pugh, and she was born in Pleasant Mound township, January 14, 1857, being aged 79 years, three months and three days at the time of her death. At the age of 18 she went to Fayette county where she lived for five years, coming back to the farm where she was born. She was married August 29, 1879, to the late David M. Rench and 22 years ago moved to Pleasant Mound, where she had since made her home. She is survived by three sons, Cleve E. and Roy and Floyd Rench of Pocahontas, and one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Redenbo of Pleasant Mound townshipp. One daughter, Mrs. Effie Crawford, died in 1901, and two children died in infancy. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildre, one brother, Henry Pugh Jr., one half-brother, Joshua Shipley, and one half-sister, Mrs. Mary Johnson, of Fayette county. Two brothers, and one hafl-brother have preceded her in death."
