Individual Note: Peter, Margaretha and their 4 children immigrated to America in 1736 aboard the ship "Harle of London." Peter signed the Oath of Allegiance to Pennsylvania and the Kings of England on Sept. 1, 1736 upon his arrival at Philadelphia.
From "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" by Ralph Beaver Strassburger, LL.D., Volume 1 of 2, Baltimore Genealogical Publishing Co., In., 1980.
Peter and his family had extensive land holdings in Frederick County, Maryland (later to become Washington County).
They were active members of the German Reformed Church. Peter's will may be found in Will Book A-1, pages 411-413 of Frederick County. The will was drafted on May 3, 1771 and probated on March 16, 1772. He was laid to rest in the graveyard beside the Zion Reformed Church in Hagerstown, MD.
The following notes were furnished by Joe Bosserman of Covington, Miami Co., OH to this researcher on April 16, 1997.
"A rough sketch has pointed towards the community Wileroltigen, in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland as the likely place of nativity of Peter Rentch the 1736 immigrant to America. Or in Sohlingin, Germany (page 148 Studebaker Book # Number 1.) Or perhaps he was born in part of Switzerland that is now Alsase.
Rev. Newton L. Poling of Hagerstown, MD mentioned to me that he thought the whole bunch (Rench / Studebaker, etc.) were from Zurich, Switzerland. Peter Rensch was of the German Reformed Church when he arrived in America. Joe Bosserman, April 1997.
According to Phyllis Jean Monroe:
