Individual Note: Robert was born in Egg Harbor, NJ. When he came to establish himself in business in PA, he located at Cherry Tree, Indiana Co., where he operated a saw mill, acquired timber lands and rafted lumber and also was interest in a grist mill at this point. He married Jane Atchison, a daughter of George and Katie (McClellan) Atchison, the latter of whom belonged to the same family into which Gen. George B. McClellan, of Civil War fame, was born.

"The Cherry Tree grist mill was erected in 1874 by Robert McKeage. It was 38 by 50, three stories in height, and has three runs of burs. Its motive power is an overshot wheel, ten feet wide, and twelve feet in diameter. The McKeage sawmill was built in 1864...."
